Reconciled with God
Romans 5:8-11
First I’m going to ask one simple question.
• Where is your relationship with God at?
And then I’m going to talk about the verse.
• I’m going to go over the idea of sin being the problem that keeps us from having a relationship with God. And then share how the cross and Christ satisfies the problem and how we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son.
• The amazing thing is that this happened when we were enemies with God. And it was nothing that we did but what God did through Jesus Christ that we can now have a relationship with him.
Then I’m going to talk about how some of the students might feel about there relationship with God.
• Some of you might feel like you’re not good enough or that you’re too sinful to be loved by God. That’s not true. That’s actually taking away from the cross. That’s where grace comes in. It’s okay to feel sorrow over your sin but God’s children are happy. They are full of joy, love, and grace.
• Perhaps some of you might feel like you’re okay with God. That God accepts you. But that’s such a light word. God doesn’t accept you. He loves you and wants to fully embrace his children.
Finally I will close with encouraging them to simply turn towards God. To fan into flame any spark that they feel about desiring God.

hey jon, I like the message that's coming across here.
ReplyDeletesome things I might suggest are (and they may be in there because the outline doesn't show it) specifics on why we don't feel we're good enough and then what the implications are that God accepts and loves us. I guess expanding on that last idea with specifics would be good too.
Also, how does sin separate us I suppose will be a question to answer
But it looks like it stays on course! looking forward to it
what's up jon.
ReplyDeletei think brett hit on some good points. be sure to expand on those key points. this is basic christianity, but we should never tire of it, so don't be afraid to really drive home and pound in each of your points.
in terms of your conclusion, be sure to talk about how we turn to God and fan sparks into flame. maybe what it might look like and maybe ways they can do it or desire it. it may even be a good ending to ask your first question again and posing it as a challenge.
Hey jon... this all looks great. I don't have that much more to add, since we talked yesterday and Brett and Eugene had some good feedback.
ReplyDeleteBut yeah... the key is to get the kids to identify with those feelings of inadequacy or shame - to recognize the ways that they're emotions take away from the cross. That awareness will really make your point that much more powerful.
Good stuff man. I like it.
