ROMANS, II

hey guys,

here's a rough outline of friday's message...

I. Introduction

II. The Standard (1:16-17)
  • The Gospel
  • Righteousness
III. The Sin
  • Its "Sinfulness" (1:18-25)
  • Its Judgment (2:5-11)
  • Its Universality (3:9-18)
IV. The Salvation (5:1-11)
  • Justification by Faith
  • Saved from Judgment
V. The Savior
  • His Name (Matt 1:21)
  • His Death (Rom 3:21-26; 5:6-11)
  • His Triumph (Rom 5:18-21)
VI. Conclusion
  • Focusing on the Savior
  • The Meaning/Reminder of Christmas (Luke 2:1-20)

---
to sum up, its basically hitting key points of the Gospel and culminating in Christ with a reminder of what Christmas is all about--Him who was born to save His people.

the focus will be probably be more in The Sin (III) and The Savior (V). i want to try and draw out how bad sin really is, and in doing so, show how awesome what Christ did was.

my goal also is to point things out through the study bible so hopefully the kids will have a better idea of how to use it and what's really there.

  1. Dude... my bad Eugene. Forgot to check the blog.

Overall, I think this looks good. I like the focus on sin and savior, and the contrast their. One suggestion would be to really focus on some points in the text that kids wouldn't understand on their own. I think for youth, a study Bible can be most helpful in making sense of difficult passages, as opposed to deepening their knowledge of stuff they already know. Does that make sense?

Maybe looking at some of the finer points of sin and savior (i.e. OT references, key words they might not understand, etc.) with the study Bible.

One other thing... make sure to be intentional about stories, illustrations, humor. For one thing, kids have "heard the gospel" before, and you want to work to keep their interest to make the finer points of something they think they already know. Also, explaining the use of a study bible can be kind of academic, so be careful not to overdo that.

    Sorry this was late!

  2. Hey Eugene, yeah, I think it looks good, just make sure you have the focus there. If you're focusing on sin and savior, make sure that's a part of each place.

Brandon is right in pointing out that they have "heard the gospel" before, though it is always good to hear it again. If you can keep it with stories, that'll help, because in a way, that personalizes it and might allow them to connect with what you're saying better, rather than just theoretical.

sorry for being late as well... that's what 9 hours at the library does to ya...

  3. It looks good. Man you get to be the first one to say open up your Bible and well, hopefully everyone brings it, and gets to whip it out.

I think you'll do a good job in drawing out sin and then talking about how awesome Christ is and what he has done.

Let me be the third to apologize for my misbehavior in being late.
